National HIV Prevention Monitor
Generating accurate, accessible and country-wide HIV Prevention data
This Alliance Programme will:
Generate real time, provincial & national data on HIV Prevention and SRHR indicators, to inform national monitoring, evaluation and advocacy programming with
political support from the National Department of Health. These indicators will be decided on/revised/analysed at National HIV Prevention Summits held every two
years in the countries of operation to focus the National HIV Prevention agenda and its location in national strategic plans on HIV/AIDS.
- This data will be gathered by a team of provincial monitors under the guidance of a National Coordinator.
Data is uploaded in real time using mobile telephone technology and is available on the Internet, via short message service (sms) and internet on mobile phones.
This programme will be established and implemented in the first two years of operation in South Africa and one other African country as a pilot programme.
Based on generated data as well as emerging HIV Prevention knowledge, the Alliance will adopt an annual area of focus that presents an opportunity to accelerate the HIV
Prevention response in Africa. The Alliance will then mobilise resources, technical expertise and cross country learning and leadership support to strengthen this
particular area of the response.
The Alliances focus in its first year of operations will be that of the accessibility, availability of and support within programming that provides Post Exposure
Prophylaxis to all who need it.
