SCIENCE NAVIGATOR (Consultant)

Khadija’s 32 years in civil society programmes are rich with advocacy experience and communicating results, grounded in a deep commitment to social justice. She recognises inequality as structural and intersectional. A stickler for logic, detail, and ethics, Khadija applies these standards consistently in her work and interactions.

Khadija’s qualifications include a BA in Sociology and African Political Studies (Wits, 1997), a Postgraduate Diploma in Gender and Development (Wits, 1999), certifications in Project Management (UJ, 2015), Good Participatory Practice (AVAC, 2022), Research Ethics in Practice (HAVEG. 2023), and Level 1 Pandemic Preparedness (WHO, 2024).

Her work has spanned operational roles in PEPFAR-funded programmes focused on differentiating service delivery and expanding services to key and underserved populations; direct community engagement for South Africa’s National Strategic Plan for HIV, TB and STIs 2017-2022 (2017-2021), and senior Lead of Community engagement in clinical trials at Wits RHI. Khadija is currently African Alliance’s Science Navigator and the Impact Lead for the Womandla Foundation. She also writes for the New Economy Hub, bridging the global health and climate justice nexus.

Khadija is a member of the Southern African Sociological Association (SASA) and the International AIDS Society (IAS). She serves on the African HIV Cure Consortium Working Group for Socio-behavioural Research (2025/6) and co-leads the IAVI Community Engagement Working Group: BnAbs for Infant HIV Prophylaxis (2023–2025). In her private time, Khadija mentors three aspiring young science and innovation advocates voluntarily. She lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with her three children.
