UK-based Cameroonian lesbian activist, Bandy Kiki, became known for her online activism.
She’s been fierce in her support of two trans women who were charged with “attempted homosexuality” in Cameroon in 2021. The pair were released after five months in jail.
Kiki told Reuters at the time that the crackdown on these two transgender women is a mere symptom of a larger problem throughout Cameroonian society: “Homophobia is like a binding glue when it comes to Cameroonians,” Kiki said. “When it comes to hating LGBTQ people, they all come together.”
